Am I Really Saved?

Salvation is not as cut and dry as the "preacher" you heard made it seem. They tell you: "All you have to do is pray this little prayer and ask Jesus to come into your heart". The problem with that statement is that it may or may not be true. Read this list of questions:

  • Are you bearing the Fruit of the Spirit?
  • Are you Learning the Ways of Righteousness?
  • Are you listening to the Holy Spirit?
  • Can you hear the Holy Spirit?
  • Are you growing in your obedience?
  • Is your "will" something that you won’t give up?
  • Do you help others to grow in their faith?
  • Do you turn away from those things that God convicts you of?

Make Your Calling And Election Sure

The questions asked above are imported in understanding what salvation is really about. The narrow gate is hard to find and we must remember that The Lord Jesus Christ said these words:

Luke 14: 28-33For which of you, intending to be a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it- lest, after he has laid the foundation, and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, saying, 'This man began to build and was not able to finish.' Or what king, going to make war agaisnt another king, does not sit down first and consider whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes agaisnt him with twenty thousand? Or else, while the other is still a great way off, he sends a delegation and asks conditions of peace. So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple."

Fruitfulness- "You will know them by their fruit…" It goes without saying that if the fruit is rotten, then the root is wicked. Speaking in unknown or unintelligible speech/tongues does not mean that a person is of God. The evidence that someone has the Holy Spirit is clearly given to us in the Word of God. We have to bear lasting fruit that remains! Of course, not by our own power or might, but operating by the Spirit of God (even while we are in an emotional state). Thereby producing fruit unto righteousness in our own lives and in the lives of other saints. If your emotionality & zeal do not produce lasting fruit then how can we say that you are "filled with the Spirit"? (Jude 1:12)

Learning & Listening- "He will lead you into all truth" How can the Holy Spirit lead you if you never listen or learn from the Holy Spirit. Growth is extremely important to salvation. Every person who believes in the Son of God, The Lord Jesus Christ has the indwelling Holy Spirit inside of them. So how do you know if you have the Holy Spirit if you never learn from or hear The Holy Spirit? The Holy Spirit speaks to the church and if you aren’t hearing then you are not growing, and if you’re not growing then you are not learning, and if you are not learning then you are not hearing and if you are not hearing then you don’t have faith and if you don’t have faith you cannot please God. (Revelation 2:7)

Obedience- "If you love me keep my commandments" I have heard many people say "I am not where I want to be but thank God I am not what I used to be". This saying is not in the Bible, and for good reason. From beginning to end, The Word of God tells us: Obedience is not an option, it is a requirement. The Lord Jesus Christ was sent because God loved us first! This implies that we are to love Him back, second. To LOVE is to OBEY. How can you say that someone is your LORD if you do not obey? If you don’t obey your LORD then you are saying (by your actions) that your LORD has no power and you do not respect His authority. I do not think that someone who scoffs at the power & authority of God is going to have a positive outcome at judgment day. Do you? (1 Samuel 15:22)

Will- "Not my will but thy will be done…" I am going to make this as blunt as possible. If your own "will" always takes priority over "God’s will", you might want to make sure that you are saved. Followers of Jesus Christ were initially called Followers of the Way! There is a reason they followed ‘The Way’, because The Lord Jesus said: " I am the way, the truth, and the life" John 14:6. So if you are always going your OWN way, how can you be going THE Way? You can’t travel in opposite directions at the same time, and if you keep turning around, going back and forth in both directions then you are NOT going in any way. At some point, if you say that you believe in The Lord Jesus Christ, there must be a rejection of your own map and an acceptance of The Lord’s Path. If you go the wrong direction your GPS will tell you to make a U-turn, and so will the Holy Spirit once you have Him living on the inside of you. (Philippians 2:8)

Edification-"Whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be great in the kingdom of heaven…" The Lord Jesus Christ wants His people to help build on another up. But this could only be accomplished through the power of The Holy Spirit. There is no way for believers to edify one another without totally leaning on the direction and guidance of the Holy Ghost. The only way that The True Church can survive is by the building up of itself. If you are not building up other believers in The Lord Jesus Christ then who are you listening to? The Holy Spirit teaches and leads us into helping and edifying other believers. If your life or your words only hinder people from coming to The Lord, then how can you be following in the path of righteousness? At that point you are an enemy of The Lord and not a member of The Lord’s Body. (Ephesians 4:15-16)

Repentance- "…Except you repent, you shall all likewise perish" Repentance is making a 180 degree turn (an about face). There is no way to say that you are saved unless you repent. You cannot keep facing your sin and say that you see the goodness of The Lord. You cannot keep facing death, and say that you have life eternal in front of you. You cannot keep facing destruction and say that you can see the salvation of The Lord in your life. Repentance is NOT saying: "I am sorry", Repentance is NOT an emotional experience, Repentance is NOT walking up to a preacher during an alter call, Repentance is NOT getting knocked out or laying on the ground babbling, Repentance is NOT going to church, Repentance is not putting money in an offering plate, Repentance is NOT saying "I ain’t perfect but…". Repentance means waiting on God, NOT passively but actively being obedient, but at the same time knowing that The Holy Spirit will ultimately make the appropriate changes as you grow and go with The Lord (Job 14:14)

The F.L.O.W.E.R. acronym can be used to help you to get a basic level of understanding of what salvation actually is. But in order to get full knowledge one needs to commit their lives to the Son of God The Lord Jesus Christ and believe that He rose from the dead.
